Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced by the body that plays a role in the regulation of the sleep–wake cycle. Its production increases in the evening when it gets dark, signalling to the body that it is time to rest.

GABA is a substance naturally produced by the body and involved in processes within the nervous system. In scientific studies, GABA has been investigated in relation to relaxation and stress regulation. In one study, changes in brain wave activity were observed after GABA intake, with an increase in alpha waves that are typically associated with relaxation (Abdou et al., 2006).

Valerian extract has traditionally been used to support relaxation and natural sleep². In the scientific literature, valerian has been studied in relation to sleep quality and the process of falling asleep.

In a systematic review of clinical studies, an improvement in subjective sleep quality was reported in a proportion of participants after taking valerian extract (Bent et al., 2006)*.
