Protecting and caring for our skin is essential to staying radiant and young. A lot of products and treatments help us do this. However, the impact of a healthy lifestyle and nutrition on healthy skin are often underestimated.
The skin is our largest organ and is largely nourished from within. More than that, the skin protects us and in many cases forms a barrier. So not all products just get through. Or they don't get deep enough to be effective. For radiant skin it's crucial to take good care of both the outside and the inside.
With Inner Beauty, we`d already created a powerful formula that has helped many women nourish their skin from the inside out. Because science and knowledge come first at Insentials, the latest scientific insights are always followed up and used to improve the products.
Therefore, Inner Beauty's trusted formula became even more powerful. Science doesn't have to be complicated, which is why in this blog we explain in a very simple way this updated formula, the Inner Beauty H5-NADH™.
NAD+ (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide) is a coenzyme that plays a crucial role in your energy production and metabolism. You can find this little substance in all living cells because it is necessary for every living organism.
NAD+ is often used alternately with NADH. Basically, they are not the same, because NADH is the reduced form of NAD+.
As we age, the level of NAD+ in our body decreases. By the age of 40, you have only 50% of your NAD+ left. This decline is linked to several age-related ailments and diseases.
But your lifestyle and diet have a great impact on your NAD+ level as well. Just think about insufficient sleep, eating too frequently, insufficient protein-rich food, too little exercise, too much stress, and so on.
Simply explained, NAD+ is a molecule that binds to other enzymes. This activates these enzymes and triggers several interesting reactions. These reactions can be divided into two groups according to their function. On the one hand, there's energy production for the body and cells. On the other hand, there's the repair and protection of your DNA.
NAD+ is found in every living cell of our body, as the little substance appears to be necessary for every living organism. Among other things, the cell contains the mitochondria, also known as the "energy factories" of our body. These produce almost all the energy we need in our bodies to live and grow. It's precisely NAD+ that plays a crucial role here and is needed to ensure proper energy management and vitality of our cells.
Your skin reflects your inner health and vitality. Because your cells have more energy, you will also experience this by your skin becoming more radiant. Moreover, because our cells have more energy, they also become stronger and less susceptible to external damage. Think of sun damage, but also damage caused by alcohol, stress, unhealthy diet or insufficient sleep.
In our cells there are also chromosomes that contain our genetic material or DNA. At the ends of these chromosomes, you find telomeres. These structures protect our genes. We'll take a quick look at their important role.
Telomeres are repeating DNA sequences at the ends of chromosomes. They function as protective caps for genetic information during cell division. With each cell division, telomeres naturally shorten. This is a process inextricably linked to aging. When telomeres reach a critically short length, it signals the cell to undergo senescence, a state in which the cell no longer divides, or apoptosis, programmed cell death.
These protective structures are crucial for maintaining the stability and integrity of chromosomes. By serving as a buffer, telomeres ensure that vital coding portions of DNA remain untouched during numerous cell divisions. However, due to the limitations of DNA replication, known as the "end-replication problem," telomeres become shorter and shorter over time.
Telomerase is a specialized enzyme that helps prevent telomere shortening by adding specific nucleotide sequences to the ends of chromosomes. The enzyme is particularly active in stem cells, germ cells and certain immune cells, allowing these cells to maintain telomere length and divide. In most somatic (body) cells, however, telomerase activity is minimal or absent. This leads to gradual erosion of telomeres as a natural part of aging.
NADH is an essential coenzyme involved in energy production and redox reactions in cells. It plays a crucial role in mitochondrial function and ATP (adenosine triphosphate) synthesis. This provides the energy required for various cellular activities, including the maintenance of telomeres.
Studies suggest that NADH can affect telomere dynamics in several ways:
Thus, in this way, telomeres are associated with age-related ailments and diseases. Examples of this in the skin area include skin spots with hyperpigmentation, also known as age spots. NAD+ is an important factor in counteracting this process and is therefore sometimes called the "anti-aging molecule.
NADH thus delivers many unique benefits such as radiant skin, anti-aging effects and increased DNA repair and regeneration. But NADH also scores high in terms of skin hydration and anti-inflammatory properties such as for acne. It literally gives your cells the energy that makes your skin glow from within.
A healthy lifestyle and diet are always the basis, but supplementation of NADH is an important addition to ensure that your energy level remains sufficiently high.
Moreover, research (Gao et al., 2023) shows that oral intake of hyaluronic acid provides increased skin hydration after only 2 weeks, improved skin pigmentation after 4 weeks and an increase in firmness of the epidermis or the outer layer of your skin after 12 weeks.
Zinc and vitamin C are two strong players in the fight against skin impurities and inflammation. Together they form a synergistic duo where both zinc and vitamin C are a real boost to your immune system. A strong immunity is important for healthy skin and also speeds up the healing of your skin when inflammation or damage occurs.
In addition, zinc also has anti-inflammatory properties. In this way, it can reduce the growth of bacteria that cause acne, among other things.
Finally, vitamin C is also a strong antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals. These are harmful particles in your body that can damage the skin and accelerate certain aging processes. These free radicals occur in everyone as a natural result of stress, air pollution, insufficient sleep, UV radiation, as well as intense exercise, for example. The intake of vitamin C is therefore essential to prevent these free radicals from having free rein.
Vitamin C is found in kiwis, strawberries, peppers, kale, and so on. So a healthy diet with enough fruits and vegetables is always the basis, but often insufficient to give your cells and skin the boost they need.
Collagen is the most abundant protein in the body. It provides elastic and radiant skin, it keeps your muscles and joints supple, your hair and nails strong. From the age of 25, your collagen production declines and the effects of collagen loss begin to show: more and more fine lines appear and your skin becomes more fragile.
Insentials' liquid collagen shot "Smart Collagen" contains as much as 10 grams of collagen. That's very high dosage to be maximally effective. Moreover, it contains hydrolyzed collagen peptides so that the absorption of this large protein is much better, with 91% guaranteed absorption. In addition, it also contains sulfur-containing amino acids for continued stimulation of own collagen production. Of course, without sugars and sweeteners, which makes it unique in our segment.
While collagen works at the level of skin tissue, H5-NADH works at the cellular level. In this way, the Inner Beauty H5-NADH capsule and the Smart Collagen shot are two complementary products that you can take separately or together.
